This self-paced, 1-hour lesson provides educators with practical strategies to teach phonemic awareness — the ability to hear and manipulate the smallest units of sound in spoken language. You’ll learn the developmental sequence of phonemic awareness skills and explore evidence-based instructional routines such phoneme isolation, segmentation, and blending. Guidance on differentiating and scaffolding instruction is provided to ensure all learners, including those at risk for reading difficulties, can successfully develop these foundational skills.
